At Swindon Borough Council we have a clear vision of what we want the future to look like. We are ranked in the top 10 most highly innovative areas in the UK and are seeking to reflect this level of innovation in the way we deliver council services. We want Swindon to be a place that communities are proud to be a part of.

Swindon’s Highways and Transport team has a critical role in managing and improving our highway and transport network and in supporting our growing business and residential populations. Balancing demands and current and future transport needs through of our works programmes, policies and vision is key to ensuring that we have an effective and efficient highway and transport network able to help Swindon achieve it’s potential.

We believe that the success of our vision will depend on the very people working within the council. Joining Swindon Borough Council as a Street Works Technician in Highways and Transport is your chance to make a difference and be part of something exciting.

As Street Works Technician you will be a member of a small team responsible for minimising congestion and reducing casualties. The role offers an opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects, working with colleagues across the organisation, plus external partners whilst developing your skills in traffic management and Quick Wins In Reducing Congestion (QWIRC’s).

Responsibilities include liaison with Utility Companies and stakeholders, approving Vehicle Crossings, approving Road Closures, approval of highway licences including Skips, Scaffold and Hoarding, undertaking Sample Inspections on Utility works and coordinating planned works to avoid clashes.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the personal specification requirements; must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role); and must be able to travel throughout the Borough.

In return we can offer you a friendly and supportive working environment with flexible hours and a generous leave entitlement.
