This is an exciting opportunity to join the Structures Team located in historic Oxfordshire. Oxfordshire is a thriving county with one of the fastest growing economies in the country.
You will be part of the team responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient management of structures located across the highway network. These include Bridges, retaining walls and some culverts to name but a few. You will be acting as a technical expert on the specialist subject.
The successful candidate will be:
A Graduate Engineer with a degree level qualification and the drive and passion to become chartered, have an up to date knowledge of bridge maintenance and design standards, including Eurocodes and other relevant technical. Legislative and administrative guidance. The ability to help develop forward programmes of works for capital programmes and experience in the use of Bridge Management Systems.
The structures team is a key part of the Asset Renewals Service and has responsibility for routine and reactive maintenance on all County Council maintained structures on the highway network. The team:
• Oversee General, Principal, Underwater, and Special Inspections of the structures to identify defects and safety concerns and then develop forward plans of reactive and programmed works.
• Review Inspection reports and identify and co-ordinate a programme for those structures requiring load carrying Assessments.
• Manage and report on the Capital budgets relating to structures, including the preparation of an annual programmes of works.
• Review and authorise Technical Approval documentation prepared in connection with County Council schemes.
• Act as the Authorities point of excellence on local development schemes.
• Act as the Authorities point of excellent for abnormal load routing and approval across the Oxfordshire highway network.
• Liaise with Town and Parish Councils on highway structure issues will also form an important part of the team’s work.
• Formulate and update as required the Bridges Policy in accordance with National and County Council strategies.
• Co-ordinate and manage the Bridge Management System to ensure that the structures database is kept up to date.
The post is on a new ‘career grade’ with a wide salary scale. Starting point on this scale is negotiable depending on skills and experience.
