Transportation Services

Poole is a beautiful place to live!  We have a modern, forward looking Council committed to developing a dynamic economy through revitalising Poole while protecting and enhancing its unique environment.

We are expanding our Transportation Development Management team to deal with growth in the town. Your role will be to help ensure that the highway and sustainable travel aspects of development are fully considered and that the resulting infrastructure is properly constructed. This role offers you the valuable opportunity to contribute throughout the development process – assessing planning applications, overseeing legal agreements and ensuring that developers construct new streets and agreed changes to the highway to time and specification. Working in a team environment you will take on your own case load responsibilities, with appropriate support from colleagues, leading to the rewards of watching a scheme develop from the initial planning application through to on-site construction.

You will be joining a highly regarded team where you will use your professional skills and experience in either, or ideally both, development management and highway construction. You will provide professional advice on the highway and sustainable transport implications of planning applications to the Council’s Planning and Regeneration Service and then work with colleagues to prepare Section 38 and 278 Agreements and agree and monitor Travel Plans.

Previous experience of preparing or dealing with planning applications or highway engineering is preferred. For recent graduates starting salary will be commensurate with the level of experience.  You will have a qualification in Town Planning, Civil Engineering or other appropriate subject at degree level or equivalent and will be willing to secure a professional qualification, if not already held. You will demonstrate sound written and negotiating ability.

This permanent position is a good opportunity to develop a wide range of skills within the field of sustainable transport and highway design within our career grade scheme.

Starting salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications.  For an informal discussion please contact Lee Smith, Senior Development Management Officer, Transportation Services on 01202 262002 or email him at [email protected].

Starting salary is likely to be either £26,816 (Grade G) or £30,206 (Grade H) depending on skills and experience. Salaries quoted include a market supplement of £3,650.

Progression to £36,019 is possible through the Borough’s Engineering Career Grade scheme.
