About Us

There are a number of opportunities for enthusiastic and highly motivated people to join the Environment Department within Hertfordshire County Council. The remit of the department is growing to meet the challenges that the County faces as the economy picks up and the population expands.

Working within the Spatial Planning and Economy unit, the work is exceptionally varied and will encompass a wide range of duties including Minerals and Waste Planning Policy, Strategic Rail, Planning Enforcement and Strategic Planning.  Successful post holders would be expected to work on high profile projects such as; the Minerals and Waste Local Plans, HS2, Crossrail, District and Borough council plans, enforcement cases and much more.

This package of principal posts will help the SPEU address the challenging work programme ahead.  Each post is tailored to specialisms within the Unit’s services, but the intelligence and skill sets of post holders should enable them to work across the spectrum of the Unit’s activity.  This is in keeping with the SPEU philosophy that skills are transferrable and cross unit/service work is the way forward.

About You

The way in which the Unit works and operates within and beyond the organisation means that candidates will need to be experienced team players with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to prioritise a busy workload to deliver and manage a range of major and varied projects.  The profile and sensitivity of the work of the unit will also mean that you will be politically astute and have experience of day-to-day informal and formal involvement with politicians.  Much of our work is undertaken with partners and communities, so you will have experience in working in multi-organisation environments and with the general public.

Rewards

Hertfordshire is the county of opportunity and this position will offer you a programme of work in which skills, experience and achievement are rewarded by progression through the performance monitoring and career progression schemes.

Employees have access to a great range of benefits including generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working, Local Government Pension scheme and have access to Herts Rewards offering a variety of discounts and wellbeing options.

Hertfordshire County Council welcomes applications regardless of race, disability, sex, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, gender reassignment, marital status, civil partnership status or pregnancy.
