We’re looking for an individual who is able to take responsibility for winning and delivering projects for local and regional public sector clients including the West of England authorities, Wiltshire Council, Gloucestershire County Council and Oxfordshire County Council; as well as national clients including the Department for Transport and Highways England.

Key responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading projects across a wide range of transport planning areas including policy and strategy, scheme appraisal and business cases, evaluation and/or stakeholder engagement.
  • Providing technical expertise and knowledge sharing in the above areas.
  • Managing local clients in relation to wider transport planning commissions and frameworks.
  • Supporting senior Project Directors in delivering large complex projects for key clients.
  • As Project Manager, taking responsibility for teams delivering technical work.
  • Building client relationships and actively promoting new business opportunities in the sector, including with partner local authorities.
  • Managing and supporting bidding for new opportunities.
  • Building relationships with clients to spot and develop new business opportunities.

The Team

Our Bristol team is part of Atkins’ nation-wide Transportation Consultancy Practice covering all aspects of transport planning. We have a strong forward workload with major clients in central and local government.  Our teams are currently delivering exciting and important policy, strategy and research projects throughout the transportation sector.  We are at the forefront of national and international policy-making, supporting key decision makers at all levels; and are also supporting cutting edge technology, including autonomous and connected vehicles.

At a local level, we have frameworks with a number of local authority clients and a track record of making a real difference on the ground.

 Current and recent projects include:

  • Strategy and case making: West of England Future Transport Strategy; Chippenham, Salisbury and Trowbridge Transport Strategies; Gloucestershire Parking Review; Developing a Pan-Midlands Transport Strategy (Midlands Connect); Basingstoke West Strategic Transport Study - Garden Cities Capacity Fund;
  • Multi-disciplinary: A303 Stonehenge By-Pass Option Appraisal; Botley Road Corridor Study (Oxfordshire); and
  • Cutting edge technology: VENTURER and Flourish Driverless Cars projects (Innovate UK).

Requirements

We welcome applications from highly motivated and skilled individuals who are or have:

  • Excellent technical project managers and keen to build their own portfolio of projects.
  • Experience and/or interest in managing local transport planning framework contracts.
  • Familiar with recognised project management practices, though formal project management qualifications are not required.
  • Driven to deliver technical excellence within commercial and financial constraints.
  • Experienced in one or more of the fields described above, and with a track record in delivering UK transport planning projects.
  • Knowledgeable about the current UK transport policy context and able to utilise this knowledge through projects and client interaction.
  • Able to work within larger multi-disciplinary project teams across Atkins.
  • Good communicators, with strong report writing and presentational skills.
  • Able to work closely and collaboratively with clients.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and innovation across transport planning.
  • Willing to work simultaneously on a number of projects and flexible to work with different teams around our UK offices including co-location in client offices.
  • A relevant professional qualification (or working towards it), e.g. TPP or the Chartered status.
