Based within the Neighbourhoods and Regeneration Directorate, our Streetscene Service ensures Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for residents, businesses and visitors. Contributing to the wellbeing of our community and creating a sustainable public realm.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Transport Planner to assist in managing and progressing transportation planning matters. You will be involved in some of the largest development sites in London, directly contributing to development of key centres in the Borough, from Shoreditch to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and surrounding neighbourhoods, ensuring development is high quality and aligns with our vision for the area,. You will provide transport responses to development control for planning applications and related work. You will also prepare transport observations for cases being determined by the planning committee.

Working on a wide range of applications, you will liaise with stakeholders, ensuring the correct information is available, potential issues are resolved and innovative outcomes achieved. Attend planning committee as required to respond to queries, ensuring that statutory and legal obligations are delivered and communicated in a customer-focussed manner. You will manage up to 6 staff and oversee their staff training, monitoring development and performance.

You will need to demonstrate report-writing skills, technical expertise and possess an excellent knowledge of transport policy. You will need experience negotiating Section 106 planning contributions with developers.

You will have shown a capacity for development management and planning policies and processes, you will possess excellent communication skills with fluent written and verbal English. A proven ability to work on your own initiative is essential, as is the ability to manage your own time and have experience managing a team along with experience reviewing and supervising the work of others. You will also have shown confidence engaging with and managing the expectations of stakeholders including members. You must possess a relevant degree and have a qualification in Transportation Planning. Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body is also desirable.
