Based at: City Hall, College Green, BS1 5TW

Boasting a thriving economy and an exciting cultural offer, Bristol is a great place to be right now. Building upon our European Green Capital status, Bristol seeks to continue its success in investing in sustainable transport infrastructure that has seen cycling double, the delivery of the MetroBus rapid transit network and the forthcoming MetroWest suburban rail programme that will see new stations opened and frequencies increased. Bristol is also home to the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, which will see 17,000 new jobs created in new development around Temple Meads Station over the coming years as well as delivering the 12,000 seat Bristol Arena, due for completion in 2018. On top of this is the urgent and pressing requirement to deliver substantial numbers of new homes for Bristol’s people.

The above investment and housing demands are encouraging more and more development over the coming years. This requires the Transport Development Management team to expand to deliver exceptional new places in the City for all who wish to live, work and play here, whilst resisting development proposals that result in poor and unsafe environments.

The Transport Development Management team works in close partnership with planners, developers, architects and engineers from across the planning spectrum to ensure that new development benefits from the high quality transport infrastructure that we expect for those who live, work and play in Bristol.

The role of the team involves: assessing the acceptability of development proposals; quantifying the transport impacts of new development; negotiating with developers and securing transport improvements through the planning process and ensuring that new and existing streets are constructed in accordance with guidelines in such a way that actively encourages sustainable travel whilst minimising future safety and maintenance liabilities. We also work cross-boundary with our partner authorities in the West of England to ensure that future urban extensions deliver effective walking, cycling and public transport linkages to the existing urban area and therefore minimise damage to our environment and the health of our people.

The team is expanding to meet the rapidly increasing demands placed upon it and is seeking enthusiastic and hard-working new team members who take pride in their work and care about improving the environment around them to fill a number of roles.

In addition to these roles, we offer a full range of employee benefits and opportunities including flexible working hours; a competitive annual and flexi-leave entitlement; entry into the Local Government Pension scheme; mobile working; childcare vouchers; discounts towards the cost of sustainable travel and assisted vehicle purchase as well as numerous training opportunities to enhance your technical and professional skills as you progress within the organisation.

BG13 Transport Development Management Co-ordinator – Planning (£36,937 - £39,660):

We require an experienced Transport or Planning professional who can demonstrate considerable experience in Development Management and is passionate about creating better environments in the interests of contributing towards more healthy and sustainable travel within Bristol.

Focussing on the transport impacts and requirements of development, the successful candidate will be responsible for negotiating the Highway Authority's position on a number of major planning applications whilst co-ordinating the output of the Transport Development Management team's response to small-medium sized planning proposals. To this end you will be able to demonstrate experience in the writing of and / or evaluation of Transport Assessments and the reporting of evidence to planning officers, committee members and the Planning Inspectorate as part of the planning process.

The postholder should be able to demonstrate extensive previous experience of working in a cross-disciplinary environment and dealing with challenging and controversial planning proposals, with previous private sector experience being of clear benefit.
