Kingston is a growing Borough. By 2050 the population of the borough is expected to increase by 30 per cent. That’s over 50,000 extra people who will need to move around the borough for work, leisure and education.
Sustainable travel is key to accommodating that growth and ensuring the continued success of the borough whilst the spaces for travelling remain the same.
In 2014, Kingston were one of just three local authorities, who won a bid for a share of £100 million worth of funding from the Mayor of London and Transport for London under the Mini-Holland Programme. A programme designed to encourage more people to cycle and improve safety while providing better streets and places for everyone.

About the role
We are looking for a Transport Planner to join the Sustainable Transport team. You will join a well-established team with a track record of delivering innovative, and award winning, sustainable transport projects and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects.

Our work includes a major programme of cycling and cycle infrastructure improvements funded through the Mayor of London’s Mini Holland programme and being delivered under the GO Cycle brand. The successful candidate will play a core role in planning and delivering a programme of roadshows and events across the borough to support these schemes, as well as taking on other elements of the programme including administration of a bike loan scheme to enable people to try a bike a encourage new cyclists and regularly updating the Council’s sustainable transport web pages.
More broadly we also work closely with schools, business and communities providing advice and guidance on how the can reduce their car use. Through TfL’s Bikeability programme we deliver cycle training to school children across the Borough as well as offering more bespoke training to adults on request.

The intention is that this role will be predominantly Kingston based with substantial travel across the Borough. Occasional travel to Sutton to support other colleagues in the team may also be required.

About you
Experience promoting sustainable transport initiatives along with strong project and budget management skills are core to what we are looking for. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and have extensive experience (3 years+) in the promotion of sustainable transport initiatives including delivery of sustainable transport roadshows and consultation events.
