What is the Service?

The Transport Development Team provide a number of services for the Council and the public such as developing, monitoring, reviewing and delivering transport policies and strategies; providing the Council’s input to our various partners’ plans and programmes; and undertaking the Councils access duties under the Land Reform Act.

What is the role?

As a Transport Planning Officer you will report to the Transport Development Team Leader and you will be responsible for working across the Council and its partners to assist in developing, monitoring, reviewing and delivering the Council’s transport strategy and associated policies and programmes. For example by preparing policy documents, undertaking analysis to inform policy and preparing monitoring and review documents.

You will assist in providing transport policy input to the Council and Community Planning Partnership policies and functions. For example providing input to the Community Planning Partnership’s Single Outcome Agreement and its delivery plans and providing transport input into the Council’s and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park development plans.

You will also assist in delivering the Council’s Transport Strategy for example by providing input to programme reviews, assessment of major projects including briefing and managing external consultants and taking the lead in delivering identified transport strategy programmes.

Where appropriate you would also be able to undertake project work such as transport development control and roads project designs.

Essential Criteria:

  • You will be educated to relevant degree level, or HND level or equivalent

  • Awareness of the issues that influence the development and delivery of a transport strategy

  • Be able to demonstrate transport planning experience in fields such as policy planning, transport assessments, travel planning, sustainable transport promotion, scheme assessments

  • Ability to develop policy documents

  • Ability to take forward policy and project work with minimal supervision
