PO3 - PO4 £38,007 - £42,651

Permanent, Full time

Ref: HC01479

Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

Our Public Realm Division ensures that the London Borough of Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for all our residents, businesses and visitors. Our Streetscene team is responsible for the design and maintenance of all highway networks, footways, bridges and lighting on all public roads, contributing to the wellbeing of our community and creating a sustainable public realm. The Transport team is an industry leading team which is responsible for transport policy development, policy responses and implementing sustainable transport projects. Our work includes creating a cycle network, implementing car club, electric vehicle and cycle storage provision and we have successfully implemented parklets, cycle apps and other sustainable transport initiatives.

We are looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join the transport team. You will deliver a range of sustainable transport infrastructure projects in the borough to support the uptake of walking, cycling and low emission travel and contribute to improving the air quality in the borough. We want Hackney to have the most sustainable neighbourhoods and streets in London and your role will be vital in working towards this ambition. Your role will involve rebalancing the road space away from private cars through delivering new cycle infrastructure such as new quietways, contract managing our large portfolio of cycle parking (on and off-street), creating parklets, expanding our electric vehicle infrastructure and contribute to other sustainable transport initiatives in the borough. You will be responsible for contract managing and procuring our contracts to deliver sustainable transport infrastructure and you will be required to ensure the achievement of the scheme outcomes and objectives through implementation, monitoring and assessment.

You will have experience of transport policy and planning, procurement, scheme implementation, budget management and partnership working. You will have good and effective communication, management experience, report writing and interpersonal skills and be proactive in adding value to the service delivered. You will be able to project manage effectively and will be able to work on their own initiative whilst being part of an active and dynamic team.

An understanding of urban air quality issues is desirable as is a good understanding of traffic management orders and infrastructure implementation procedures. With an excellent understanding of environmental and sustainability policy and legislation the ideal candidate will also have the ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with service users e.g. negotiations, presenting evidence or advice in a public forum within Hackney’s diverse community.

  • Liaise with other internal directorates and external agencies to communicate project objectives and/or source information required.

  • Understand plans and drawings and other relevant technical information related to Sustainable Transport projects.

  • Be willing to attend meetings or undertake work outside normal working hours e.g. evening meetings.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation.

If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey please visit our website to apply.
