Salary Band: Band 5/6 (£21,991 to £30,097 per annum) dependent upon experience

Ref:TS53

Closing date: 4pm, Thursday 26 October 2017

Are you seeking an opportunity to influence long-term transport strategy in the fastest growing city region outside of London? Are you passionate about using an evidence based approach to improve the customer experience?

TfGM oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. We deliver high-profile, large-scale transport projects, and it’s our experts who provide the information and analysis to shape transport strategy. This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London. Our organisation is evolving to ensure we can meet the challenges presented which means ensuring that systems and services are running optimally with maximum uptime to our customers.

You will be involved in a range of exciting projects within the Strategy Directorate that will help us to deliver our Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy (see www.tfgm.com/2040), and to respond effectively to the opportunities presented by Greater Manchester’s devolution agreement. You will be joining a well-established team that will provide you with opportunities to develop your skills and experience.

We are currently facing some big questions, such as: How might changes in travel attitudes and behaviour among different socio-economic groups affect future demand for transport? How do we develop a balanced, long-term transport investment programme to meet the wide range of economic, social and environmental challenges we will face over the next 25 years?

To support us in finding the answers to these questions you will objectively analyse a wide range of often complex data sources, produce and present succinct summaries, and embrace collaborative working with stakeholders from across the Greater Manchester community.

You will be enthusiastic and adaptable, with strong analytical, research and communication skills, and ideally some experience in transport planning, and the use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems). A relevant degree-level qualification is required (e.g. geography, transport or urban planning, economics etc.), as is an understanding of the transport and urban planning context of Greater Manchester.

You will join a supportive culture where you will receive coaching from experienced transport strategy professionals so you can develop your professional career.

In return, as well as a competitive salary, we offer a fantastic range of benefits, including:

- free home to work travel by train or Metrolink within the Greater Manchester boundary;

- free bus travel across Greater Manchester;

- 27 days annual leave;

- access to the local government pension scheme

If you believe you have the skills and experience we’re looking for we would really like to hear from you!
