Permanent

Senior Transport Development Officer (Housing)

Bristol City Council

Bristol is an exciting and culturally thriving regional capital that is attracting more and more people to live here. Whilst this is positive, we must meet the housing needs of our existing and new populations in such a way that creates high quality and well-connected environments that protect and enhance the health of our people.

Coupled with the need to deliver housing, Bristol seeks to continue its success in investing in sustainable transport infrastructure that has seen: cycling double; the delivery of the MetroBus network, and the forthcoming MetroWest suburban rail programme. Bristol is also home to the Temple Quarter Regeneration Project, which is helping to deliver 17,000 new jobs around Temple Meads Railway Station and the surrounding area, which itself is encouraging further urban regeneration on the fringes of the city centre and outwards.

The above housing and economic demands are encouraging more and more development, at present and over the coming years which requires to be got right in the interests of current and future generations. In this role, you will be at the forefront of insisting upon the delivery of exceptional new places in the City for all who wish to live, work and play here, whilst resisting proposals that result in poor and unsafe environments. Through active encouragement and development opportunities we will help you to achieve these goals in a way that is mutually rewarding.

The Transport Development Management team works in close partnership with planners, developers, architects and engineers from across the planning spectrum to ensure that new development benefits from the high quality active and sustainable travel choices that we expect for our citizens.

Key to this role will be the ability to work within legal and legislative frameworks under pressure and in a political environment using negotiation and problem solving skills to obtain the best outcome for the City of Bristol. As part of this work you will also ensure that the delivery of developer-funded infrastructure is covered by the most appropriate and robust legal processes and mechanisms.

We require a talented and experienced transport planner, traffic engineer or town planner with significant experience in the development planning or traffic engineering field with particular focus upon negotiating and securing investment.

Applicants should have an excellent knowledge and practical application of planning policy, legal agreements and highway design guidance with an ability to provide high quality technical advice to an agreed timescale.

We offer a full range of employee benefits and opportunities including flexible working hours; a competitive annual and flexi-leave entitlement; entry into the Local Government Pension scheme; mobile working, and childcare vouchers as well as numerous training opportunities to enhance your technical and professional skills as you progress within the organisation.
