The role
Camden has produced a bold and ambitious draft Transport Strategy that sets out our vision for transport in the Borough through to 2041. The Strategy contains seven core objectives which include delivering a sustainable transport system and streets that are inclusive and accessible for all, reducing all road casualties in Camden and progressing towards zero Killed or Seriously Injured, and reducing the impact of transport-based emissions and noise in Camden.

We are looking for a highly motivated Transport Planner to help us develop and deliver a variety of policies and measures which contribute towards our objectives. As part of this role you will assist in the development of a wide range of transport programmes, including road safety policies and  initiatives, and Accessible Transport strategies and policies, including co-ordinating contributions from stakeholders across the Council.

Other equally important aspects of the role will include, but not be exclusive to, contributing to the development of the Council’s Green Fleet Strategy, developing policy relating to the Council’s accreditation to the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), and identifying and compiling bids and submissions to secure funding for transport initiatives within the Council’s Green Action for Change plan.

About you
You’ll have previous experience of working in a transport/planning/accessible transport environment and a minimum of higher certificate or equivalent in a subject related to transport planning/traffic engineering/parking. (Candidates with different qualifications but demonstrating suitable experience in this or related work would also be considered).

You’ll have good knowledge of transport planning (and, if possible, specifically accessible transport and/or road safety policies/projects) as well as an understanding of the wider context of traffic and transport including air quality, land use planning, urban design, sustainability, and smarter travel. Alongside this, you’ll possess a good understanding of regional and national policy and the legislative framework.

About us

This fits in with our aim to be leaders in innovative flexible and part-time working that allows for different patterns of care and for parents to share childcare responsibilities.
