Your new role
As the Head of Transport Planning you will lead a team of 13 specialists providing advice and assurance across the organisation. You will lead the team who work on a wide range of schemes including Oxford-Cambridge scheme, Trans- Pennine Tunnel and A303 Stonehenge projects, providing transport planning advice, traffic appraisals and analysis.  You’ll need a great communication style, working across all levels and areas of our organisation and with our key stakeholders, DfT as well as influencing Investment Decision Committees on a regular basis. This is a key role in the Chief Analyst Division where you will be involved in shaping future enhancements to the next Road Investment Strategy (RIS), whilst leading transport planning research and developing new methods.

The role will require a degree of travel between our National offices.

What you’ll be lead on:

  • Develop standards and guidance for transport planning and traffic appraisal in Highways England, such as the analytical assurance framework and technical traffic appraisal guidance

  • Liaise with DfT stakeholders keeping them up to date on progress and changes

  • Provide and deliver clear transport planning advice across the RIS portfolio

  • Presenting to the Executive Committee, Board and third parties

To be successful

  • Qualification in Transport Modelling or equivalent experience 

  • Demonstrable experience of influencing and communicating at Executive Level with the ability to simplify complex information and work across all levels  

  • Background in a transport modelling and analysis, with experience in a range of research techniques

  • Knowledge of transport appraisal guidance

  • Previous experience of leading/managing a team
