North Hertfordshire District Council is a large rural district with four historic towns, Hitchin, Baldock, Royston and Letchworth Garden City, located less than 40 miles north of London. North Hertfordshire is an exciting place to live and work. Promoting sustainable growth and delivering the new Local Plan for the District are key corporate priorities.

Our new Local Plan is currently at Examination. It aims to deliver 16,000 new homes by 2031. We are looking for forward-thinking and enthusiastic Transport or Senior Transport Officer to work together with the Strategic Planning & Infrastructure teams to assist in developing sustainable transport initiatives that would deliver these plans whilst also looking at sustainable transport options for the longer term. You will be responsible for progressing initiatives set out in the Council’s Transport Strategy and there will be opportunities to represent the Council interests in Strategic and other local transport matters, including providing policy and technical advice on planning matters, town centre strategies and parking standards.

We are looking for an individual who can take on a demanding and varied workload. A good knowledge of transport and contemporary planning is essential. Applicants with at least two-years post-qualification experience in transport planning, and experience in partnership working are particularly sought.

You will require a relevant Transport or Town Planning qualification and should be eligible to work towards full membership of the CIHT, ICE or RTPI (or a relevant accredited Transport Institute).

You will need to be well organised with proven verbal, written and presentation skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines. You should also possess initiative and good interpersonal skills and be familiar with IT.

Salary Range: 
Grade 9-10: £31,080 - £40,944 pa. (career graded)
