Plymouth City Council

SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT PROGRAMME CO-ORDINATOR
Grade J (£42,806 - £47,546) Ref: PLA/774
Ballard House Permanent 37 hours per week

Plymouth City Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated transport professional to lead the work of our busy Public Transport and Travel Advisor Teams. Exciting, because Plymouth city region, following submission of our proposal for the Transforming Cities Fund in 2018, has been shortlisted by the Department for Transport and invited to co-develop proposals to transform connectivity by sustainable travel modes on our key commuter routes.

Our vision is to become one of Europe’s most vibrant waterfront cities and through the passion and determination of our politicians, management team and staff we will make a difference for the city. The Authority already has a five year transport capital programme valued in excess of £66m and a “Pipeline” of capital schemes also valued at about £66m to bring forward over the next 5 years. This transport capital programme coupled with a programme of sustainable transport schemes funded through the Transforming Cities Fund and developing our well established travel behaviour change programme “Plymotion”, you will have the opportunity to transform our public transport network.

You will have the opportunity to work proactively with councillors, directors, other senior stakeholders and colleagues in neighbouring authorities to deliver key public transport improvements essential to the growth of the city.

You will bring extensive experience of developing sustainable transport schemes, including walking and cycling schemes, working in partnership with transport providers to deliver network improvements and project management as well as responsibility for commissioning studies, preparing business cases and funding bids.

You will have a degree or equivalent in a transport or related discipline and extensive experience of management of transport programmes and initiatives, with a well developed understanding of the role of public transport in delivering sustainable transport towards the support of economic growth.

You will have experience of working within, or for, a local authority or government agency. This is an exciting time to join the Council and this role represents an opportunity to make a real difference.

For a confidential discussion about your interest in this role, please contact Philip Heseltine, Head of Transport, on 01752 307942 or email [email protected]

Closing date: Thursday 28 March 2019.
Anticipated interview date: Wednesday 24 April 2019.
