London Borough of Hounslow

Graduate Transport Project Officer x4
Scale 5/6/SO1 Depending on Experience (£24,030 – £30,711)
London

Would you like to be a part of The London Borough of Hounslow, whose diverse workforce are committed to making a positive difference for our residents and visitors by ensuring the quality of our services are maintained to a high standard?

The Council is embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise the way we work and reduce our carbon footprint. In April 2019 we moved to Hounslow House, a new landmark building located in Hounslow town centre, our new technology will enable staff to work remotely and flexibly to improve the service we provide to residents and to help our staff achieve a better work/life balance.

If you’re a recent graduate wanting to work in sustainable transport, then we have the perfect role for you. It’s a fantastic chance to start a career with clear progression, continued professional development, and first-class flexible working opportunities.

As a Graduate Transport Project Officer, you’ll use your interest in sustainable transport to help us implement an effective transport strategy. You’ll assist in negotiating transport improvements resulting from new developments, tackling local air quality issues and the Climate Emergency, and promoting road safety. Other duties will include responding to applications for developments across the borough. Ultimately, this role is about working passionately and collaboratively as part of an innovative team, to help us achieve our ambitious and challenging targets.

While you’ll be expected to work flexibly across the service, you’ll ideally come with experience or a strong interest in the following specialisms:

• Development Management – making sure new developments minimise impact on the road network and promote opportunities for sustainable transport.
• Road Safety education, training and publicity initiatives.
• Travel Demand Management and Transport Policy Development, including air quality.
• Project managing sustainable transport scheme designs – notably walking, cycling and public transport infrastructure, and parking management schemes.

To join, you’ll come with a relevant undergraduate or Masters degree, or equivalent practical experience. You’ll be an excellent communicator, have proven IT skills, and feel comfortable meeting and dealing with members of the public. Due to the dynamic nature of the role, it’s important you can work on a wide range of projects quickly and efficiently, sometimes with minimal supervision.

If you would like an informal conversation regarding the position, please contact Robert Heslop via email: [email protected] or Tel: 020 8583 5056.
