Bristol City Council

Senior Transport Operations Officer

Bristol

£32,029 - £33,799

Ref: 3654

The Sustainable Transport Infrastructure and Projects Team are looking for a Senior Officer to oversee a number of day-to-day operational activities of the team.  If you have an interest in public transport and helping keeping the city moving then this could be the role for you.

Bristol is currently going through a period great change with many developments taking place, or in the pipeline, alongside proposals contained within the recently adopted Bristol Transport Strategy to transform the transport network over the next 10 years and beyond.

The Operational activities will include:

- Liaising with internal and external teams and stakeholders to keep the bus network moving and ensuring passengers are provided with the appropriate information if buses are on diversion or bus stops need to be suspended as a result of works
- Managing bus stop allocations and assessing bus service registrations when they come in to determine if they are appropriate and if new infrastructure is required
- Overseeing the team’s fees and charges system
- Assisting in the development of a department wide Asset Management System
- Supervising at least two Service and Infrastructure Inspectors
- Oversee the management and maintenance of bus stop infrastructure

An opportunity has arisen within the Sustainable Transport Infrastructure and Projects Team for a Senior Officer to oversee a number of day-to-day operational activities of the team. These activities are critical to keeping the bus network, and other sustainable transport modes such as taxis and coaches, operating during planned and unplanned situations and ensuring that passengers are provided with the appropriate information. Such situations could include utility works resulting in a planned or emergency road closure, to being a key stakeholder in the development and implementation of major transport projects. As such, you will need to liaise closely with public transport providers as well as internal teams such as Network Management, Highways Maintenance and Project Teams.

As well as keeping the public transport network moving and ensuring passengers are provided with the appropriate information, you will also oversee the management of our assets including bus stop infrastructure and work with colleagues to develop a Department wide Asset Management System, as well as supervising a small team of Service and Infrastructure Inspectors. In addition, you will need to oversee the team’s fees and charges system which brings an income from utility companies and other organisations if bus stops or bus routes are affected by works. To be successful in this role you will need to be organised, have an eye for detail, and the ability to make decisions under pressure.

This is an exciting time for transport in Bristol and the surrounding areas, and the Sustainable Transport Service is continuously busy working on numerous projects throughout the City, leading to Bristol having a rare position nationally of a growing bus market. This position offers a stimulating and rewarding opportunity to be involved in a work area that is pivotal in the successful development and improvement of the transport network in our City.
