About the team
TfWM’s Transport Planning team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organisation delivers the best schemes and services possible to enable us to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous region. The team is responsible for making the case for a broad range of projects including major schemes such as Midland Metro, our Sprint BRT network and rail infrastructure enhancements. Robust data and evidence are at the heart of everything the team does. Aligned to this the team is responsible for operating and maintaining the West Midlands Public Transport model and acts as an intelligent client for the maintenance and operation of PRISM, the regions multi-modal transport model. Given the scale of investment currently taking place on transport infrastructure understanding the impact these initiatives have on meeting our economic, social and environmental priorities is fast becoming a growing area of interest for the team.

Who we need
We are looking for an experienced and well-rounded Transport Planning professional with a passion for problem solving and innovation. You will be well versed in dealing with high-profile, complex transport projects and working with multiple stakeholders.

An excellent understanding of options development, scheme appraisal and multi-modal transport modelling will be expected. Experience of undertaking Monitoring and Evaluation of transport interventions across a range of modes will be a core responsibility that will be undertaken by this post. The ability to communicate often complex, technical messages to a range of audiences will also be a key requirement for this position.

The successful candidate will manage the work of the Transport Planning team, taking responsibility and initiative for driving forward the team’s work as well as deputising for the Head of Strategy and Intelligence and the Director of Policy, Strategy and Innovation as appropriate. In undertaking this role you will demonstrate strong leadership skills and show a keen interest in fostering high performance team behaviours.

A key measure of success will be the ability of the post holder to play a lead role in developing and managing the work of the team in order to meet the objectives of a wider range of stakeholders within TfWM and the wider WMCA family including member authorities.
