Principal Transport Planner (Job Share) 17.5 hours per week

PO5: Starting salary £44,373 pa rising in annual increments to £47,274 pa pro-rata.
(£47,479 to £50,583 incl market supplement)

Lambeth is a vibrant borough located in the heart of London. Its favourable position attracts iconic projects by international developers and world class architects such as the redevelopment of Shell Centre in Waterloo. The borough is unique in its variety of locations stretching from Waterloo and Vauxhall in the north, with a distinctive range of prominent riverside development opportunities, with lively and diverse town centres such as Brixton and Clapham, through to Streatham and Norwood in the south.

You will play a key role advising the Development Management service, and will provide expert technical and policy advice on transport aspects of major development proposals, from pre-application advice through to planning committee. There is also the opportunity to get involved in policy making and wider transport and regeneration projects.

You will need to demonstrate a strong track record of assessing planning proposals and dealing with major applications as well as good organisational and interpersonal skills within a local authority context.

You will also demonstrate:

• Knowledge of the planning process including development control procedures and policies.
• Experience of working in a transport planning environment including significant experience of making recommendations on the transport impacts of major new developments to Planning officers.
• Experience of working in a political environment, advising Members and colleagues to ensure best outcomes are achieved.
• Experience of negotiating effectively with developers and other external parties including partners and resolving conflicts.
