Help drive a transportation transformation

Exciting things are happening here in Hounslow. We’re embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise how we work and reduce our carbon footprint. Our diverse team is finding all sorts of ways to make our borough an even better place to be for our residents and visitors alike. And by helping to make this a prosperous, healthy, accessible and safe environment for all, our Transport Planning & Road Safety team is right at the heart of it.

If you’re an ambitious and environmentally minded graduate, these roles are an opportunity to help deliver our transport strategy and road safety programme. We have two posts available, one based in the Road Safety team and the other in the Strategic Transport team. However, you will work closely together.

In the Road Safety team you will help to deliver our road safety education and cycle training programmes. In the Strategic Transport team you will help to develop and deliver our active travel programme and transport strategy. Both roles will help deliver our school travel planning programme and both are central to helping us promote active travel and plan for the future.

As well as giving you huge scope to learn and develop a host of skills, the roles will enable you to make a tangible difference to our diverse communities by making our transport network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible. You’ll also be part of a supportive team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.

These are roles that are an excellent training ground for a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in the field of transport and the environment. Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the directorate, especially our green recovery and environment teams, to ensure our services are fully integrated and always put our communities first. Your role will also involve coming up with innovative ways to tackle a range of local issues.

You’ll be working with our residents and schools so you will have strong written and verbal communication skills. We’ll also want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to deliver a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, protect the environment and enable us to deliver on our Transport Strategy. You’re someone who can influence the delivery of the innovative projects that are part of the programme.

We’re based in Hounslow House, a new landmark building located in Hounslow town centre. Our investment in new technology enables our teams to work remotely and flexibly giving everyone a better work/life balance. We also offer excellent career development, an inclusive culture and a whole range of generous benefits. All in a visionary borough like no other.

Appointment to these posts will be subject to a DBS (disclosure and barring service) check.
