We are currently recruiting for a career grade Engineer to Senior Engineer for Transport Development Management team to work on a full-time contract. This role will be based out of Keynsham however flexible working patterns are available.

About the role

Transport plays a vital role in bringing forward sustainable development, maintaining, and improving road safety, minimising traffic generation and maximising the shift towards sustainable travel modes within the framework of transport and land use planning policy and guidance.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer/Engineer to join our Transport Policy & Developments team which is responsible for assessing the impact of development proposals on the roads and transport networks in the area. We provide recommendations to the Local Planning Authority to help improve and preserve the safety and sustainability of travel in the area as new developments are delivered. Our team consider applications ranging from small residential proposals to large urban extensions; new or expanded schools; and new commercial or retail units. There is an interesting and varied workload across the full spectrum of transport development management.

The role sits within a close-knit team, which works well with our colleagues in planning development management to ensure that transport requirements are delivered as part of high-quality development schemes.

About you

You will either be looking for a promotion from a Technical role or looking to put your existing road safety, traffic management skills into use in a slightly different role. We are looking for a well organised, resilient individual with excellent communication and report writing skills. In return we will offer you a wide range of planning applications to work on within a supportive and multi discipline team.

Ideally you will have experience in reviewing Transport Assessments and negotiating with developers to secure transport related improvements to development proposals. You will also be able to work on drafting and coordinating legal agreements with developers under Section 106 of the Town & Country Planning Act legislation which allows developers to deliver improvements to Bath & North East Somerset’s transport network relating to their planning application.

Your main place of work will be the award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible via car or public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
