This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and commercially minded individual to play a key role addressing the challenges presented across passenger and fleet transport for North Somerset Council.
We are seeking an individual with substantial experience in the management of passenger transport to lead and manage North Somerset’s Integrated Transport Unit (ITU). The ITU was formed in January 2017 following a cross departmental Transformation Review which brought together the former Public Transport, Home to School Transport and Fleet Management teams.

Candidates will need significant experience of resource management, strong organisational skills and a robust personality. You will have excellent negotiation and communication skills and, ideally will bring extensive experience across the teams’ work, which includes:

• Public and community transport
• Home to school transport
• Fleet management
• Management of the Concessionary Fares Scheme
• Initiation, commissioning, management, evaluation and progressing of transport projects on behalf of the Council
• Management, maintenance and analysis of transport datasets and transport information systems
• Procurement, monitoring and management of transport contracts
• Development management inputs
• Transport policy and strategy
• Development of demand responsive transport services

As well as the management of day to day functions of the team, this permanent post presents an opportunity for someone keen to direct change. The team’s current programme seeks to deliver a total of £700k+ of financial savings over 4 years, and your role will be vital in both delivering this ambition and identifying future opportunities.

You join us at a time of significant change; during drafting of the JLTP4 and the West of England Bus Strategy, and as we approach the Examination in Public for the sub-regional Joint Spatial Plan. Skill with people and change management will be important.

Working in a small but ambitious unitary authority, you will be based in the Transportation Service. You will work at all levels within the council including with Executive Members and senior managers. North Somerset Council works closely with the other West of England and sub-regional authorities, and your role will have significant cross boundary focus.
