£27,099 per annum for 36 hours per week based at County Hall, Penrhyn Road, Kingston-upon-Thames, KT1 2DN. This position is based inside one of our main area offices, click HERE to see a 360 degree view of the building and surrounding area along with a view of the reception.

About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Strategic Transport Group for a highly motivated and well organised team member to be responsible for the day to day operation of Surrey's Real Time Passenger Information system. Providing accurate and up to date bus journey information allows passengers to make informed decisions on their travel choices. Our residents have told us how important this is to them.

As Transport Officer (Data and Information) you will be able to think clearly, have excellent communication and strong analytical skills. In this important role you will help influence and shape future use of bus services in Surrey, ensuring that our real time passenger information system operates efficiently, providing accurate live bus arrival information. You will work closely with colleagues within Surrey County Council and with the bus operators to help identify where service improvements can be made.

You will monitor the system performance, including reporting faults, data analysis, liaison with our system supplier, bus operators, neighbouring authorities and other partners. You will also support colleagues producing bus timetables and updating our webpages. Full training will be provided.

Some of the key areas of work:

The day to day administration of the Surrey Real Time Passenger Information system
Monitor system performance and manage fault reporting/repairs
Liaise with the RTPI system supplier and bus operators
Maintain the NaPTAN bus stop database
In addition to a network of commercially operated bus services provided by a number of bus companies Surrey County Council spends around £8M per year supporting the operation of socially necessary bus services. We aim to build on the excellent work to date and continue to make bus services more accessible and attractive, improve reliability to encourage greater patronage and reduce the reliance on public subsidy. Accurate real time passenger information is fundamental to achieving this.

To be shortlisted to interview your application will clearly evidence:

Educated to A level standard or relevant work experience in a related field
Strong and accurate administrative skills
Knowledge and/or experience of databases and data management
Ability to prioritise and plan your workload
Excellent communication skills with a strong team work ethic
