CITY OF YORK COUNCIL
Travel Planning Coordinator
Salary: Grade 8, Level 1-4 (£24,099 to £27,186 pa)
Closing date: Thursday 5th April 2012
Job Ref: CS007
Fixed Term contract to end March 2015

Following the Council’s success in securing grant funding from central Government, the Intelligent Travel York (ITY) programme is seeking to recruit an individual to join the Sustainable Transport Operations (STO) team within City Strategy’s Sustainable Transport Service. This role will require you to use your initiative for the completion of agreed tasks. You will be able to demonstrate experience of successful working with both the business and public sectors in the areas of travel planning and behavioural change.

Working closely with the Sustainable Travel Project Officer and School Travel Advisor, you will coordinate the Council’s travel planning engagement and delivery with education centres, businesses and third sector organisations in York.

In this critical role you will deliver the travel planning objectives of the ITY programme. Specifically this will involve working with every major business in York to ensure that they have a fully implemented and adopted travel plan and that they are actively working with their staff to encourage sustainable travel. You will work closely with the Council’s Economic Development Unit and York Enterprise in its wider business engagement, to further develop an external travel planning service.

The successful candidate will be able to provide and demonstrate that they have a good understanding and working experience of travel planning techniques. You will be able to demonstrate your experience of working in or with educational establishments and, importantly, of engaging with businesses. You will have excellent presenting and negotiating skills and have high standards of written and oral communication. The role will require you build positive working relations with internal and external organisations at all levels and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of both public and private sector thinking and needs.

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful applicant to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the CRB.
