About the Job
In keeping with the Council’s declaration of climate emergency, this post will be instrumental in delivering sustainable transport objectives across the borough.

This role is based in the Planning Policy Team, working alongside the two Principal Transport Planners and with the Highways and Infrastructure teams to ensure the delivery of sustainable transport interventions within new developments. This will include advising on development proposals, assessing and monitoring Travel Plans and Construction Logistics Plans (CLPs) to ensure the Council’s planning policies are robustly implemented. The role may be required to provide support on wider transport matters including advising on issues on a sub-regional and regional level, alongside contributing evidence to support Infrastructure [Transport] themes as part of the Local Plan.

This is a brand new role in Newham so the post-holder will have an opportunity to work with planning and highways colleagues to shape the delivery and implementation of schemes, projects and policies to promote Sustainable Transport.

The post requires an appreciation and understanding of the transport aspects of planning legislation and national and regional policy; a robust understanding of the importance of stakeholder and public engagement; strong interrogation and negotiation skills and the ability to manage a complex and varied array of tasks and responsibilities to drive forward key projects individually and as part of a team.

About You
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with transport planning experience. You should be familiar with planning in urban environment and building strong working relationships with a range of Council services, as well as external public, private and community organisations to contribute to the delivery of sustainable transport initiatives.

Successful candidates will be politically astute with an appreciation of London and national politics and their implications for transport planning and infrastructure delivery.
