The Southampton City Region (covering Southampton and part of Hampshire) has received £57m of funding from the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) to deliver on our exciting and ambitious plan to transform transport connectivity.
Our ambition is to transform people’s journeys, lives and the places they live with better connections for walking, cycling and using public transport.
To help to deliver on our proposals we are looking for proactive and organised individuals to undertake the roles of Transforming Cities Fund Project Leads. These are 3-year fixed term positions, primarily based within Southampton City Council’s Strategic Transport team, but will work in partnership with colleagues at Hampshire County Council.
As a Project Lead, you will be responsible for leading delivery of one of the TCF Programme areas covering:
• Rapid Bus & ITS,
• Active Travel Zones & Local Mobility, or
• Transport Transformation of Southampton City Centre.
This is an excellent opportunity to shape the transport future for the Southampton City Region through an exciting and innovative programme which is being supported and closely monitored by the Department for Transport. You will have experience in defining scope, products and deliverables, including appropriate resourcing of innovative transport and public realm schemes, and ensuring these are delivered to agreed time, cost, quality and compliance objectives.
Experience of delivering complex public transport, active travel, cycle infrastructure schemes and/or creating liveable spaces in communities is highly desirable.
You will need to have suitable civil engineering, transport planning or project management qualifications. You will have experience of successful delivery of a range of large scale infrastructure projects through the full project lifecyle. You will be confident with dealing with a range of stakeholders, contractors, Councillors and partners, and have experience of managing multi-million pound transport budgets.
It is essential for you to be flexible, be able to work under pressure and to be able to work collaboratively with partners and suppliers. Prioritisation of workloads associated with multi-scheme delivery is a must.
We will be appointing a Project Lead for each of the four programme areas and applicants should indicate which programme area their strengths align with.
