About The Team & Role:

 

Gloucestershire County Council is looking to recruit a Traffic and Active Travel Manager. You will be leading and developing a dynamic team challenged with improving the highways infrastructure to improve safety, and accessibility and sustainable travel across rural and urban communities in the county. You will oversee the work of the Road Safety team including ThinkTravel, the Traffic Regulation Order team, and establishing our in-house Traffic Engineering design and delivery team, ensuring that our council achieves its objectives to meet the needs of our community by making roads safer and encouraging sustainable travel including walking and cycling.

 

This role will offer you the opportunity to operate in a varied and fast paced environment. You will use your knowledge and experience to support some of the most significant and ambitious service initiatives the sector

 

has to offer. Your track record of leading teams focused on traffic and safety engineering and your deep understanding of working in large, complex organisations will be valuable in providing direction for the team in order to meet the transport challenges the Council faces including a 50% reduction in KSIs by 2032 and Vison Zero by 2050 and reducing carbon emissions to Net Zero by 2045. 

 

As the Traffic and Active Travel Manager, you will be accountable for the implementation of Gloucestershire County Council’s statutory obligations and policies for road safety and the delivery of highway infrastructure schemes through our Road Safety Partnership. Your strategic approach will guide and shape the development of the team whilst adhering to legislative standards and procedures.

About you:

 

As the Traffic and Active Travel Manager, you will play a vital role as a member of our senior leadership team, you will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain successful working relationships and provide valuable advice to both internal and external stakeholders, bodies and companies. Engaging and team up with partners, using your negotiation skills to influence effective solutions and secure funding.

 

Your extensive leadership skills, will give you the ability to provide direction and support to individuals, ensuring you get the best from the team, encouraging freedom for innovative ideas and collaborative teamwork. Your track record of budget and resource management will aid you in manging revenue and capital budget within your area and provide value for money on road safety, active travel, public transport, and climate change schemes.

 

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you hold a current, full driving license valid for driving in the UK. Degree or relevant equivalent in civil engineering with experience in local highway and road safety engineering.

 

You will need to be professionally qualified with a relevant UK Engineering body ICE, IHE, CITH to Incorporated or Chartered status.
