We are seeking a highly motivated, professional and committed Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning Team in Dorset. This role is to deliver cycling and walking investment plans for key areas of the County as well as supporting the delivery of cycling and walking initiatives, ongoing bid processes and scheme delivery in those areas. Experience and enthusiasm for active travel is crucial.
This is a 2 year fixed term post and is part funded by Public Health Dorset through their Prevention at Scale workstream and acknowledges the intrinsic link between health and providing the right infrastructure to enable people to incorporate activity into their every-day lives. Developing our plans further will facilitate increased levels of external funding, increased delivery of schemes and ultimately improved health for Dorset’s residents.
You will:
• Be passionate and enthusiastic about the benefits of walking and cycling
• Possess exceptional communication skills
• Operate well as part of a team and happy to work solo occasionally
• Have a can-do attitude
You will be the focal point for development of cycle and walking plans in our target areas and will need to build and maintain positive relationships with a range of audiences including local Councils, businesses, schools and other stakeholders. The ability to listen to concerns, seek solutions, and clearly communicate will be essential. You will be able to demonstrate effective project management, have experience of delivering sustainable transport projects and understand the skills required to win hearts and minds amongst the key stakeholder groups.
You will join and add value to a small and experienced Transport Planning Team striving to increase the amount and quality of active and sustainable transport infrastructure in Dorset. The team are based at County Hall in Dorchester and deliver transport policy, support local plan development, bid for external funding, prioritise capital project delivery and promote active travel aimed at improving the lives of those that live, work and visit Dorset.
