Job Duties:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably dynamic and strategic thinking individual to lead and deliver Hertfordshire County Council’s (HCC) Road Safety and Active travel ambitions.

As part of the Environment and Transport Directorate, The Highways Service has one of the highest profiles in HCC and is very much in the public eye. As part of the Senior Management Team the post holder will help move Hertfordshire forward by ensuring a safe and efficient highways system, promoting safe, reliable, and sustainable travel whilst protecting the physical and natural environment.

Managing and leading a diverse portfolio of work, varied teams, partnerships and budgets, the post holder will develop policy and strategy to drive forward, deliver and review a suite of road safety and active travel behaviour change programmes and initiatives that also support wider health, sustainability, and growth agendas.

This will require considerable tact, diplomacy, communication, and negotiation with a wide range of stakeholders. Significant political awareness is required to support elected members and ensure expectations and concerns are managed in what can often be an emotive and opinionated environment.

We will need you to have post graduate diploma, masters or honours degree qualification or equivalent relevant qualification or experience.  You will need well-developed people management, leadership and communication skills.

You will need to have a range of communication styles to influence decisions and actions, be able to work in an agile way to adapt between competing priorities, and manage budgets.

As a senior manager you will play an important role in organisational leadership, and support and contribute to a wide range of existing and emerging strategic Highways plans, programmes and decisions.
