Principal Programme Officer - Fixed Term or secondment

Mayor of London

Mayor of London

Principal Programme Officer (Infrastructure)
Central London
£54,898 per annum
Fixed term or secondment until 31 May 2023

Do you have a passion for London and want to help shape its future growth and infrastructure? Would you like to have a voice in the strategic decisions that will impact Londoners and the city for years to come—from climate change and decarbonisation to unlocking housing delivery?

Do you have strong programme management and problem-solving skills as well as an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve outcomes?  If so, the GLA’s Infrastructure Team wants to hear from you.

We are looking for an efficient and self-sufficient person who demonstrates initiative, is comfortable taking responsibility and effectively drives work forward. This role is critical to unlock the work of the Infrastructure Coordination Service—a new and innovative offer from the Mayor that is pushing the sector forward in a time of great change. The Service works with utilities companies, boroughs, telecommunications providers and others to improve how infrastructure is planned and delivered across London.

The Infrastructure Coordination Service is progressing an ambitious work programme with challenging timescales, and this role will lay the governance groundwork that enables the team’s technical experts to succeed. The role will also be central to establishing structures for the service to persist beyond its current phase of work. While interest in the infrastructure sector is a plus, it is most important for this role to demonstrate you can effectively navigate complicated systems and processes (examples include procurement, legal, and recruitment).

You will work as part of an innovative, dynamic team, helping to realise the Mayor of London’s infrastructure agenda. The team you will join is high-performing, benefiting from strong working relationships across the GLA and the wider sector through the Mayor’s London Infrastructure Group.

To meet the requirements of the role you will need to be well organised and have demonstrated knowledge and practical skills in programme management. The ideal candidate will also have problem solving, communication skills and be comfortable working with a diverse range of people at different levels of management.

We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds. The key in your application is to demonstrate how your experience and skills are relevant and/or transferrable to the position.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL).  At present GLA staff are working largely from home, with office space available.  Over the coming weeks and months, we will be moving to hybrid working as part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

At the GLA we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days annual leave pro rata, interest free season ticket and bicycle loan, pension and incremental salary scheme.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.
