We are seeking a highly motivated, professional and committed Active Travel Officer to join our Transport Planning Team in Dorset. This role is to deliver active travel improvements and develop local cycling and walking infrastructure plans for key areas of the County. Enthusiasm for active travel is crucial.

This is a career graded post, and we will consider applicants with a range of experience. This is a terrific opportunity for someone at the start of their career in active travel to deepen their knowledge and expand their skills, but we are also keen to hear from experienced candidates adept at managing projects independently with minimal supervision.

What you will be doing
You will lead or work towards leading the development of cycling and walking plans in our target areas and will need to build and maintain positive relationships with a range of audiences including local Councils, businesses, schools and other stakeholders. The ability to listen to concerns, seek solutions, and clearly communicate will be essential. Developing our plans further will facilitate increased levels of external funding, increased delivery of schemes and ultimately improved health for Dorset’s residents as well as contributing to Dorset’s carbon reduction commitments.

About you  
You will need to possess, or be keen to develop, effective project management skills and experience of delivering sustainable transport projects. You will work within a team delivering transport policy, supporting local plan development, bidding for external funding, prioritising capital project delivery and promoting active travel aimed at improving the lives of those that live, work and visit Dorset. The role will require you to be able to win hearts and minds amongst the key stakeholder groups.
