Who we are

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) plans, develops and manages an integrated transport system for the West Midlands that is reliable, affordable and accessible for all. It is the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority.

A standard setter in the industry, our achievements are regularly recognised nationally, most importantly as the winner of ‘City Region Authority of the Year’ in 2016, 2017 and 2019 at the National Transport Awards.

Whether it’s developing and delivering new infrastructure, collaborating on future mobility projects, operating the West Midlands Metro or helping customers to keep moving, we need creative and innovative talent to join our already excellent team and help us make a real difference to residents, businesses and visitors travelling in and around the West Midlands.

About the team

The role will see you working within the TfWM Bus Team, to play an integral role in the delivery of existing and future bus priority schemes and programmes. This includes the recently funded bus priority measures for Birmingham city centre and Dudley to Druids Heath. High quality local bus services provide connectivity and access to key services throughout the West Midlands for residents, business and visitors. Bus is the most important mode of public transport in the region, with 4 out of 5 of all public transport trips made by bus. Prioritising the bus and improving bus journey times through bus priority and innovative traffic management, is one of the key tools to meet our ambitious environmental and modal shift targets.

Who we need

We are looking for a talented and driven individual to deliver our innovative bus priority programmes across the West Midlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your significant engineering design and delivery experience to make a positive difference to the people of the West Midlands. You will need to work closely with multiple partners, including local bus operators and highway authorities to deliver effective bus priority infrastructure projects that support our local economy and the mass movement of people. The role will see a motivated individual who takes pride in their work, given a high degree of freedom, with decision-making being made efficiently in an agile working environment. This is an exciting opportunity that will see you make a real difference to the millions of people who use bus every year and provide a legacy for sustainable and cleaner transport in the region.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.

This is a remote working opportunity until a date is agreed for the WMCA workforce to return to our usual place of work at 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham.
