Campbell Tickell are proud to be recruiting to the role of Non-Executive Director at Reading Buses.

Reading Buses has won many national awards for quality and innovation and performs a crucial role in delivering the Council’s environmental and transport aspirations. It is one of a handful of bus companies in the UK that are wholly owned by a local council but are operationally independent from them. The company is run on commercial lines and recently took over two other companies to run services across Berkshire.

There could be no better time to join the board with the development of local public transport plans and the government’s commitment to investment in bus services. We want to ensure the company has a sound financial future, is at the forefront of the move to zero carbon and we see the growth in public transport. Prior to the pandemic, Reading had the third highest bus patronage outside of London.

We have a great track record, but we recognise that we need the skills and drive from a board focused on future sustainability and innovation to meet the need for a comprehensive public transport future, which is affordable and available for people as our economy recovers from the pandemic and beyond.

The company’s future success is vital for Reading and the wider area, and we have the opportunity to reinvest any surpluses in social and environmental benefits. We need a board that is experienced and qualified for the roles, committed to our values and ambitious for the company’s future performance.

Our new Non-Executive Directors will bring experience across either customer service, marketing, human resources, local government, and/or transport/logistics. Local links to the community will also be as equally important.
