What you’ll do

As a Senior Project Sponsor, you’ll be accountable for making sure investment projects or programmes deliver agreed benefits and value for money. Early in the project lifecycle, you’ll agree requirements and confirm baseline scope. This will involve balancing a range of different business pressures and priorities.

During the delivery phase, you’ll monitor and control delivery of the agreed scope. If costs or timescales are changing on the ground, you’ll assess the situation and advise decision-makers on the right response.

What you’ll need

Together with a recognised project management qualification and membership of a professional body such as APM or equivalent, degree level education, or equivalent experience you’ll bring to the role considerable knowledge of project sponsorship in the public sector. You’ll also demonstrate working knowledge of transport Urban Transport Policy, infrastructure related consents, safety protocols, design standards and modelling techniques.

Crucially, you’ll need to be great with people – from the colleagues you collaborate with on your projects, to the stakeholders whose needs you’ll explore and whose expectations you’ll help to manage, through to fellow sponsors, with whom you’ll share advice and support. You’re skilled in presenting, networking and influencing, as well as managing and motivating.
