We have a number of exciting opportunities across multiple teams within the TfL Investment Delivery Planning Directorate. This is a great opportunity to make positive changes in a far-reaching and varied role.
Investment Delivery Planning (IDP) is a pan-TfL directorate with over 200 staff. We are key to realising the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, delivering the benefits and outcomes of TfL’s capital Investment Programme for Londoners. We sponsor a range of complex project, programmes and portfolios across London Underground, Surface Transport and Crossrail.
The role will involve close working with the Principal Sponsor to ensure project or programme requirements are met in terms of definition, governance, execution and benefits realisation.
The sponsor will assist with developing plans and stakeholder relationships to ensure essentials of projects/programmes are in line with requirements, whilst also ensuring delivery via the collaboration of both internal and external teams.
Key Accountabilities
• Support development of the investment programme, working closely across the business to define scope, understand constraints and identify opportunities for input in the client brief
• Identify the benefits of projects/programmes within the Programme to support the development of business cases and benefit realisation strategies
• Create and maintain strong working relationships to support the Principal Sponsor enabling delivery of projects and programmes
• Support negotiations network impacts and benefits to ensure schemes meet the requirements ensuring maximum benefit from the programmes
• Support the Principal Sponsor to ensure outputs such as design drawings, transport modelling and construction plans align with project/programme requirements
• Assist the Principal Sponsor with governance and decision-making process requirements, notably TfL Pathway and stage gate reviews
• Assist in the production of timely and appropriate financial and progress status reports to support budgeting, savings and efficiencies through cost plans
• Promote collaborative working with internal stakeholders and external delivery partners to identify opportunities for third party funding
Knowledge
• Degree level education in a relevant discipline e.g. Transport Planning, Project Management, Civil Engineering, Geography, Politics, or equivalent experience (Essential)
• A project management qualification (e.g. APM or equivalent) and/or membership of APM or equivalent would be beneficial
• Understanding of transport in London, including transport planning
• Understanding of management and delivery of active travel schemes relevant to a highway and traffic authority to promote walking, cycling and using public transport
• Knowledge of project management processes, governance and stakeholder and supply chain management techniques
• Knowledge of highways infrastructure consents, safety protocols, design standards and modelling techniques
Skills
• Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally
• Highly numerate, with good IT skills and ability to draw conclusions from data analysis
• Proven ability to support the management of projects to achieve business outcomes
• Ability to organise and present information in an easily accessible way to a range of audiences
• Experience of supporting delivery of projects/programmes to time and budget
• Experience of providing support roles on projects/programmes, including financial monitoring, risk management, document management, problem-solving and benefits management
• Ability to adapt and manage own time within a fast-paced environment
Experience
• Of supporting delivery of projects/programmes to time and budget.
• Of using diplomacy to influence colleagues and delivery partners to achieve joint objectives.
• Of providing support roles on projects/programmes, including financial monitoring, risk management, document management, problem-solving and benefits management
