Job introduction
The Transport Projects & Engineering team provides a critical service for the city, maintaining and improving its highest-value asset. The team is responsible for managing and maintaining the city’s carriageway surfaces, drainage, footways and other highway assets in a way that best meets the needs of the present without passing on unaffordable costs to future generations. This involves balancing numerous calls on a multi-million-pound budget for highway repairs and preventative work and ensuring there is a robust inspection and repair regime in place.

About the role
As the Head of Service, you will use a variety of established and innovative civil engineering approaches to lead and deliver value for money and excellent standards of service on the public highway. Through programming and public consultation, you’ll aim to minimise the adverse effects and disruption of highway works, whilst ensuring public safety and the integrity of the highway network.

Brighton & Hove is a great place to live, learn, work and visit. Our diverse and vibrant community is passionate about the city and there’s a shared commitment to celebrating and promoting all that makes Brighton & Hove so unique. We also welcome more than 11 million visitors to the city each year as a worldwide destination of choice.

The Transport Projects & Engineering Team is based within City Transport and the Economy, Environment and Culture directorate. The directorate works with city and regional partners to support low carbon economic growth and maintain an attractive, connected, and well-run city for residents, businesses and visitors. It’s leading the city’s programme of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and progress towards carbon neutrality by 2030.

We offer great terms and conditions including the Local Government Pension Scheme, excellent training and development, generous annual leave and staff discounts.

Closing Date: 23 July 2023.
