Keep the capital’s traffic flowing
London is a world-class city that’s home to 8.6 million people and visited every year by 19 million more. Keeping it working, moving and growing is a huge challenge, but one that TfL rises to every day. Our Network Performance team plays a key role in this, and we’re looking for experience in traffic modelling, engineering and scheme design to help traffic flow more efficiently through the 580 kilometres of London’s road network.

Remodel London’s road network
Your challenge will be to develop a city-wide simulation model that can help London’s road network operate efficiently. To do this, you will follow detailed multi-modal network modelling, which you will also use to deliver network impact assessments. Beyond this, you will provide specialist transport modelling advice and support to a wide range of contacts, including clients, consultants, sponsors, highway authorities, designers and internal staff.

Developing scheme designs and analytical tools is also a key aspect of your work, so familiarity with software such as PTV Visum and Vissim, Junctions and Legion as well as some programming languages is important. You will also supervise transport assessment studies relating to traffic control and transport modelling.

Make the most of your experience to date
To succeed, you will already have experience in traffic modelling, scheme design and traffic engineering. You will also have a qualification in a relevant specialism or the equivalent practical experience. Strong communication skills are essential, as is good numeracy and experience in a coding language such as Python, C# or Java.

Ideally, you will also have an understanding of urban traffic control, advanced signal control techniques and experience with modelling tools such as PTV Visum and Vissim, Junctions, Legion or SATURN.
