Clear Air Zone Project Officer
One Year Fixed Term Contract – Full time hours

Southampton City Council is committed to improving the city’s air quality. It will become one of the first UK cities to introduce a Clean Air Zone with a charging scheme to tackle the most polluting vehicles. It has developed an ambitious programme of further measures that will raise awareness, educate and provide the support needed to make Southampton a clean and healthy place to live and work. A Clean Air Zone Project Officer is needed to help deliver this plan. You will have an appreciation of the science behind poor air quality and a track record in delivering projects that will reduce emissions to be suitable for this role.
The role involves:
Providing technical support and project management to implement a mandatory Clean Air Zone (CAZ) no later than 2020 and you will be responsible for delivering projects to improve local air quality as identified in the Council’s Clean Air Implementation Plan.
This will include collaborative working with other Council services and partners where relevant including transport and sustainability, which is coordinated by the Sustainable City Manager and wider team. Also close working with the Department for Transport’s (DfT) and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (DEFRA) Joint Air Quality Unit (JAQU) and the other CAZ cities to ensure the CAZ is delivered effectively.
