Service Manager-Transport Projects

Sheffield City Council

Service Manager - Transport Projects

Sheffield is a growing and ambitious city with a really good story to tell. We’re not like everywhere else, we do things differently and we’re fiercely proud of that. The city we call home is beautiful, vibrant and independent. At the same time, the city we work in is an industrial city, a producer, a maker. Sheffield has seen significant renewal over recent years, constantly reinventing itself and changing almost beyond recognition in the past three decades.

To build on this continuing change the Strategic Transport, Sustainability and Infrastructure Service is looking to recruit a Service Manager - Transport Projects to play a pivotal role in shaping transport and public rights of way improvements across the city and play a key role in the service management team.

Using your significant professional experience you will act as lead advisor on all transport scheme feasibility design matters, developing high quality projects to deliver the Council’s vision for transformational improvements to our transport network, including the current and future Connecting Sheffield projects, large scale major transport schemes as well as projects that are important to our local communities. You will develop strong collaborative relationships with wider service teams and delivery partners to ensure that the design and development of the wide range of projects within our significant capital programmes are resourced, planned and managed to deliver successful outcomes.

You will have a proven track record of leading and motivating teams to develop and deliver high performing, functional and high-quality solutions that meet the needs of internal and external customers.
You will have significant professional experience in transport scheme feasibility design and development and associated management of a range of multi-disciplinary staff, projects and programmes within a complex organisation, dealing with a wide variety of public/private and third sector stakeholders. Experience of working in a political environment; knowledge of current best practice in transport engineering, feasibility design and project management; the statutory and practical responsibilities of managing Public Rights of Way; the ability to resolve challenging project/programme issues; communicate well and collaborate effectively with colleagues across a range of Council services is essential.

Importantly you will have a strong customer focus and be able to act as adviser to a range of clients providing advice on complex and contentious transport issues and a proven track record in collaborating with and influencing colleagues across different Service areas to achieve better outcomes.

If the above appeals to you and you meet the qualification requirements, then we want to hear from you!

If you have any questions or want to discuss this opportunity please contact: Tom Finnegan-Smith, Head of Strategic Transport, Sustainability and Infrastructure on 07787268905 or 01142736030.
