Telford and Wrekin Council

Senior Highways Project Engineer

£34,538 - £37,306pa

Telford & Wrekin has a population of 170,000 people and our population is younger than the national average. Our borough is predicted to grow in the next 13 years adding nearly another 30,000 people. We are investing in growth in the borough and this presents an opportunity to attract new businesses. The borough is a combination of old and new, urban and rural, traditional and modern and includes the unique Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team in a brand new role. Telford & Wrekin Council are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivating Senior Highway Project Engineer to provide design input and technical audit and advice on Planning and pre-planning applications in relation to highway engineering matters both within the council and to developers, their agents and other external clients.

Working to the Development Team Group Manager, the post duties include:

  • To provide technical advice to Planners on highway engineering matters.

  • Be responsible for the detailed technical assessment of development related highway works proposed for agreement under S.38 and S.278 of the Highways Act and use professional judgement and other resources as appropriate to review, audit and approve designs by third parties for making alterations or additions to the borough’s highway network.

  • To actively investigate, design and suggest highway engineering solutions and provide advice to internal and external clients in relation to new development.

  • To deal with highway enquiries from Councillors, parish councils, the public and other internal and external bodies in relation to new development.

Applicants will have a degree in Civil Engineering (or related subject) with significant relevant experience. Membership of a professional body (such as the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineers or similar) would be an advantage.

For an informal discussion please contact Keith Harris, Group Manager on 01952 384601.
