Representing the Highway Authority within a Unitary environment the Highways Development Management team, is focussed on supporting that vision making sure that traffic can move safely and efficiently around the local highway network, bringing environmental and economic benefits – helping to make Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work.

As part of a team based within the planning department as a Principal Highways Officer, this will also be your priority. It’s your chance to shape new developments and make a real difference to our community.

With a mix of urban and rural environments, Central Bedfordshire offers a set of complex planning challenges. With your in-depth knowledge of highways development management, you’ll understand the issues we may face. You’ll apply your expertise to advise astutely on new proposals. If necessary, you’ll negotiate improvements that support the Council’s agenda. The key is to keep the authority moving and make sure that Council policies are implemented. With colleagues looking to you for guidance, you’ll join a team of dedicated highways professionals.  

As a highway specialist, you’ll have extensive experience of the role of the Highway Authority in relation to new developments.   You will be an experienced highways and transportation professional and familiar with responding to planning consultations  ranging from pre application advice to appeals.. You’ll be familiar with innovative highway design, and experienced in network and junction modelling techniques.  You’ll be keen to apply your knowledge to a brand new challenge, insisting upon high standards and with good communication skills, you’ll provide a customer-focused service.
