Play a key role in the delivery of a seamless logistics service.

The work of NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) could be described in so many ways. Some would say that we’re a world-leading transplant and transfusion service. Others would say that we’re a research powerhouse. Others would argue that we’re an organisation based on a culture of continuous improvement. All of these statements are true, and together, they explain why so many of our employees don’t just see us the next stage in their career – they see us as the only employer that they want to work for. Join us, and experience a uniquely collaborative spirit, in which every member of the team is valued for their contribution.

About the role:
We strive to deliver a truly integrated logistics service, and with you managing one or more of our Transport sites we will be one step closer to cementing that vision.

We are committed to improving how we operate, and as such, you will determine what changes need to be made within all functions that perform driving duties. Putting the measures in place to bring your ideas to life, you will analyse working practises and procedures, identifying any weaknesses. Making resourcing decisions, you will collect information on the performance of staff at all levels, and you will be capable of presenting potentially contentious information relating to practise changes to large staff groups. You will also present your recommendations to senior colleagues, and you will use your specialist logistics knowledge to organise and solve complex logistics-related activities. Seeing to it that our fleet of vehicles are fit for purpose, you will ensure the team are complying with all mandatory regulations.

About you:
This is an exciting chance to help us deliver flawless logistics. To be equal to this fast-paced opportunity, you will therefore have comprehensive experience in transport management within a customer service environment. It is possible that you will have a postgraduate (NVQ Level 6) qualification in a management field, though it is more important that you have a well-developed understanding of current Road Transport and Operators licensing legislation. You will also:

• Have the capacity to encourage cross-functional working and service development, with the ability to use transportation, logistical, fleet, IT, planning and management systems.
• Hold a certificate of professional competence Road Haulage National. You will also have a current category B driving licence, enabling driving within the UK.
• Have previously managed within a Trade union environment. As such, you will be highly persuasive, with exceptional negotiation skills.
• Have excellent communication and people management skills, with the ability to lead multiple departments remotely.
• Bring plenty of tact and diplomacy to the role, particularly as you will be handling highly sensitive, complex, confidential and contentious information.
• Be IT competent, with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent.
• Bring a creative and flexible approach. This will include taking part in an on-call rota.

About us:
Become a valued member of our team, and open yourself up to an amazing world of career possibilities! We are passionate about helping our people grow and develop in their roles, so you will find plenty of career progression opportunities through our in-house training academy, plus the chance to climb the ladder internally. And while your job satisfaction is important, we know that you also need to find a great work/life balance. We therefore offer generous annual leave, access to a competitive pension scheme, multiple staff discounts and flexible working opportunities. Against the backdrop of a friendly and supportive working environment, we are confident that once you have joined us, you won’t want to leave.
