Transport Planning Officer opportunities at Plymouth City Council Plymouth is a spectacular waterfront city which will be seeing many exciting changes over the next few years such as the redevelopment of a major part of the city centre and the waterfront. The city offers an unrivalled lifestyle with amazing green spaces and close proximity to some of the best beaches and landscapes in the country, including Dartmoor National Park.

As a result of our unprecedented transport programme Plymouth City Council is recruiting six new Transport Planning Officers consisting of: two permanent H/I grade officers, one temporary H/I grade Officer (to December 2023), one permanent E/F grade officer, and two temporary E/F grade officers (to December 2023).

The Transport Planning Officers will be based within the council’s Strategic Transport Team, The Strategic Transport Team, located within the Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Department, are delivering a programme of transport infrastructure central to the successful delivery of the Plymouth and South West Devon Joint Local Plan, which sets out an ambitious growth agenda for the city.

We are leading one of the largest transport investment programmes Plymouth has ever seen, with an overall programme of over £200 Million. As well as delivering major schemes, Plymouth is also one of the cities chosen by the Department for Transport to deliver the Transforming Cities initiative, having received over £51 Million for sustainable transport projects.

H/I grade posts
we are looking for experienced Transport Planning Officers able to demonstrate knowledge of local, regional and national transport policy and with the skills necessary to develop and deliver transport projects. You will have experience of planning, directing and organising people, managing budgets and bring excellent communication and influencing skills in order to meet delivery timescales and work with strategic partners. You will be able to use your problem solving and technical skills to drive improvements to the city’s transport offer.

E/F grade posts
Plymouth City Council is looking for an enthusiastic individual looking to make a career in transport planning. The successful applicant will be expected to have reasonable experience and knowledge within a transport or transport related field. The post holder will assist the Strategic Transport Team in the day to day management, co-ordination and delivery of transport projects. The post holder will take a lead role in roadshows and community events as well as initiating, undertaking or commissioning of technical surveys, studies and where collating, analysing and evaluating data. In return we will give you an interesting and varied pipeline of projects to deliver in one of the most exciting cities in the UK.

These roles are suitable for flexible working subject to the needs of the service.
