About this opportunity

The Streetworks Compliance Officer role within the Highways Service plays a vital part in managing and overseeing streetworks compliance and statutory duties across Westmorland and Furness. The postholder will ensure the authority meets all legal and regulatory responsibilities relating to the coordination, approval, and monitoring of works carried out on the public highway. This includes ensuring that all streetworks and highway activities are properly planned, authorised, and coordinated to reduce congestion, improve safety, and minimise disruption to road users, residents, and local communities.

Who we are looking for…

The role involves providing specialist technical advice, guidance, and support to colleagues across the highways service, helping to ensure consistent and compliant approaches to streetworks management. The Streetworks Compliance Officer will also act as a key point of contact and interface with utility companies, contractors, elected members, and the public, supporting effective communication, resolving issues, and promoting collaborative working to achieve timely and efficient delivery of works on the highway.
