Directorate: Supporting Communities
Location: 5 Pancras Square
Job Level: Level 4, Zone 1
Salary: £36,630 - £42,490
Contract Type: Permanent, full time, 36 hours per week

Parking policies, and related projects, are a vitally important part of our ambitious new Camden Transport Strategy, and specifically our objective to reduce car ownership, car use and traffic levels in the Borough. Parking and kerbside policies and programmes also contribute to improving air quality from road transport, and deliver mode shift to walking, cycling and public transport. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to deliver a range of parking policies and projects in the Borough.

In terms of policies, you will assist in carrying out reviews to parking permit products – such as paid for parking, and residential parking permits - and to the size and hours of control of our Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) to ensure a fit with our Transport Strategy objectives. You will also assist with development of an ongoing feasibility study into a Workplace Parking Levy scheme in Camden.

You will also help lead in the delivery of some exciting and innovative transport projects in the Borough that relate to parking and the provision of kerbside space. This will include: leading on the policy development and continued implementation of our existing car club offer in Camden; the roll-out and implementation of our expanding network of Electric Vehicle Charging Points (EVCPs), and working with operators and consultants to set up a network of hubs to support the expansion of dockless bike hire in the Borough.

You will also work across other teams in the service to help deliver the parking/parking project elements of schemes such as our Healthy Schools Street project of timed road closures at the start and end of the school day, and other related measures including the potential use of Clearways.

To succeed, you’ll provide professional and technical advice on a range of areas that fall within the remit of the service in line with the legislative framework, best practice and new technologies and schemes that apply to the role.

About you
You’ll have previous experience of working in a transport/planning/parking environment and a minimum of higher certificate or equivalent in a subject related to transport planning/traffic engineering/parking. (Candidates with different qualifications but demonstrating successful experience in this or related work would also be considered).

You’ll have good knowledge of transport planning (and, if possible, specifically parking policies/projects) as well as an understanding of the wider context of traffic and transport including air quality, land use planning, urban design, sustainability, road safety and smarter travel. Alongside this, you’ll possess a good understanding of regional and national policy and the legislative framework.
