TfN is looking to recruit a Principal Assurance Officer:

Transport for the North’s Technical Assurance, Modelling and Economics (TAME) team is split into two closely related core activities of: data analytics, modelling and appraisal; and technical management and assurance.

TAME officers can expect to be involved across both activities, but role profiles are tailored primarily towards one activity.

This role is tailored towards technical management and assurance. It is expected to include greater involvement in leading the assurance of data analytics, modelling and appraisal developed both internally and externally.

As a Principal Officer you will be required to lead the delivery of information, data, analysis, modelling and appraisal solutions, and technical management and assurance that aid others in the production of recommendations and outputs.
You will also be expected to lead the collaboration with others to deliver outcomes and will lead the improvement of existing processes and procedures.

This appointment represents a unique opportunity to join an organisation still in its early days and help shape its future as detailed in our business plan (available via our website). This plan has several high priority commitments to deliver that are considered pivotal to northern transformation.

Over the past two years TAME has developed the Analytical Framework, a suite of sector leading data, modelling and appraisal tools that look to model and appraise the transport system and economy, and link to other sectors. This includes predicting out to 2060 under a range of economic and travel scenarios that explore uncertainty around the North’s shared vision. The development of these tools has been an innovative and challenging process; with the next phase to further industrialise them and apply them to develop robust evidence.

TAME officers have a unique opportunity to help develop prestigious projects like the North’s high-speed rail network. To compliment such projects the role also offers an opportunity to look across the North and help make more equitable and balanced decisions, motivated by aggregate benefits for society.

As we are developing evidence to transform the North out as far as 2060, we try to account for diverse views as best we can. This is helped by having a more diverse TAME team that better represents the variety of geographies and communities in the North, allowing us to develop a more balanced view.

You will be expected to collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues and stakeholders, and ensure processes and policies are developed, managed and implemented effectively. This includes working closely with our strategy and policy makers and managers.

What we’re looking for:

The successful candidate will have experience of leading transport modelling and analytical approaches to transport intervention appraisal; and experience of leading business case development for public policy interventions, particularly supporting the production of strategic and economic cases. You will also possess an excellent track record of successfully delivering projects and should be able to demonstrate leading collaborations with technical and non-technical audiences.

Candidates must be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject, with a professional qualification or equivalent experience.

Provisional Interview Date: Tuesday 3rd March 2020

In return, as well as a competitive salary, our other benefits include:
- 27 days holiday per annum (Pro-Rata for part time employees)
- Access to the local government pension scheme
- Access to various salary sacrifice benefits, including Travel Pass purchase scheme.
- Access to TfN’s Flexi-Time Scheme, allowing accrual of up to 18 additional days leave per year
