Overview
Buckinghamshire Council has a new and exciting role as Head of Highways – This is a key role to lead the delivery of the current highway service, part of this role will require you lead, manage and direct the client side team in securing the delivery of the highways services for Buckinghamshire Council.

About us
The Highways Service in Buckinghamshire is currently delivered by an integrated service provider, Ringway Jacobs. Buckinghamshire Council currently manages this contract which will run at least until 2023. The Head of Highways manages the client and is responsible for managing the Ringway Jacobs contract, with overall responsibility for managing the approx. £50 million annual budget.
The services delivered by the Highways Service are all routine and structural maintenance activities, Road safety, small improvements, Network Management and on-street car parking.
As well as managing the current service, the successful applicant will lead the design, development and procurement of a new contract delivery model that needs to reflect the current and future needs of Buckinghamshire’s highway users and in the context of a Unitary Authority.

About the role
This exciting opportunity will include being responsible for securing value for money and innovation from the service provider(s) in the delivery of the agreed contract outcomes.
As part of this role the successful candidate will need to ensure efficient and effective service delivery to the people and community of Buckinghamshire. The role reports directly to the Service Director for Highways & Technical Services.
This unique opportunity to offers the opportunity to design a service, fit for the future and able to accommodate the evolving needs and opportunities that the formation of a large Unitary Council offers.

About you
This is a once in a career opportunity to shape a Highway Service for a new authority, to be able to consider all the activities that local authorities undertake and manage on their highway network. The local and economic climate is exceptional and that brings significant demands and pressures that will test and develop your managerial and engineering capabilities whilst working in a new political landscape for the Council.
The service has a high profile with the public and the Councillors, with many more councillors in the new Unitary Council, developing effective and efficient mechansims for communicating about the service is a real challenge and there is an opportunity to modernise the service.
