The Role
This brand-new role is an opportunity to bring tangible benefit to local communities by defining and delivering the Council’s road maintenance, road safety engineering and traffic management strategies. Managing the Term Maintenance Contract and its associated multi-million-pound budgets, you’ll ensure that our road maintenance efforts respond to the pain-points of road users and align with our wider strategic objective of building greener, fairer and stronger communities.

You’ll develop relationships with community partners such as elected members, MPs, parish councils, external bodies and service users. Yours will be a customer-focused approach—one that meets the challenge of delivering better value-for-money and reduced costs while constantly improving service levels, in line with the Council’s Asset Management policy.

You’ll be responsible for meeting performance targets and the wider objectives of the Transport and Highways Directorate—but you’ll have a 53-member team to support you. By providing strong, senior leadership, you’ll instill a culture of performance-based meaningful work, towards clear objectives and skills development. The impact you have will be plain to see in the communities you serve.

Your Experience
This will be your next role in a journey of continuous professional development within highways management. Degree educated and, ideally, with a management qualification or management development programme behind you, you’ll already have a proven track record of innovation in the development and implementation of strategy at senior level.
