The Transportation business of Atkins is currently recruiting for a Surveyor to join the rail survey team based in our Croydon office. The successful candidate will work as part of Atkins project teams undertaking all aspects of topographical and gauging surveys on the Uk’s railway infrastructure.

The role, reporting to the survey practice manager, is responsible for undertaking topographical surveys within an Atkins project team. Duties will include responsibility for planning and undertaking survey project works, ensuring these are delivered safely and to the highest quality. On site the surveyor will lead a survey team and be responsible for supervising site staff assisting him, including managing safety protection staff. In time the surveyor will be expected to undertake safety roles, such as safe work leader, whilst working on railway infrastructure.

In the office the surveyor will be responsible for processing all their survey data using SCC, Leica Geo Office and Starnet software, delivering a completed and checked survey to the project team in Microstation.

 

Requirements

  • Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent in a surveying based subject
  • Competent in the use of surveying equipment including Total Station, GNSS and Automatic level
  • Competent in processing survey data using industry standard software packages.
  • Competent in use of Bentley Microstation, but general CAD experience will also be considered.
  • An excellent attention to detail
  • A flexible approach to site work including a willingness to undertake surveys at times when access to the operational railway is possible, including nights and weekends.
  • A full U.K. driving licence

    Desirable
  • Experience of permanent way and gauging surveys.
  • Current certified site safety competencies for access to railway infrastructure, such as Network Rail PTS, would be advantageous but not essential
  • Working towards or with a desire to attain membership of a professional body such as RICS.
